What is an ‘exotic’ pet?

An exotic pet is normally classed as any pet that is not a cat, dog, or rabbit. Our veterinary teams regularly provide care and advice for the relatively common ‘exotics’ (guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils etc.) and between them have expert knowledge of less common species, like certain reptiles and invertebrates.

If your exotic pet requires specialised investigations or treatment, our veterinary surgeons have a trusted network of specialists across Scotland, who they can refer your pet to. Learn more about referrals.
